Don't Tear Me Apart

Today I had the pleasure of being able to interview Scarlet Le Clair.  She is a new and upcoming author that has just published her first novel "Torn" with Siren Publishing. I highly recommend her book!

Synopsis:

Samantha Garver moves back from Los Angeles to the UK after a very difficult breakup. Sitting around in the house quickly bores her, and she begins swimming lessons. There she meets her swimming instructor, Blake McCole, who is gorgeous...but so is his brother Luke—also an instructor at the leisure centre.
When Sam and Blake bump into each other at a local pub and she spills her drink over him the sparks fly. They end up spending a lot of time together and she starts to fall for Blake, but there's something about Luke that she just can’t keep her hands off. A sexual need for him that she struggles to control. Torn between them, will the brothers ever let her have them both or will she be forced to choose between love and lust?

1: Have you won any awards/achievement in the writing world?

No this is my first book.

2:
When did you first consider yourself a writer? Is there an appropriate level of seniority that one has to reach before one can be considered a writer?

Even though my book has been published I still don't really feel like an author. Maybe when I have sold thousands of copies!

3:
What or whom inspired you to start writing?

I have always loved reading from an early age and it just progressed into writing.

4:
What is your biggest goal in life aside from your writing career?
Making sure my children grow up happy and safe.

5:
Do you have a specific writing style? What author would you say are you most relatable to?

I honestly don't know, I don't read a lot of erotica.

6:
How did you come up with the titles for your books?

My friend actually came up with the name ‘Torn’ after reading through the first draft.

7: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to focus on?

Follow your heart.

8: How much of the book is realistic/false?

All false!!

9: Are experiences that your characters goes through based on someone you know, or events that you've witnessed?

No.

10: What is your favorite movie and why?

Harry Potter, I love a world where anything is possible, a world full of magic.

11: Is there a character that you would potentially write a novella about or want to include more in the main story?

I think ‘Chris’ the stalker in my book. It may be interesting to get a little background on him and to get inside his crazy, obsessed head.

12: What book are you reading now or was the last that you've read?

I am just about to start Zombie Fallout 9 by Mark Tufo.
Last book I read was ‘Darkness of man’ by C C Genovese.

13: What are your current projects?

The second book in the Torn series called ‘Split’.

14: Who is your role model in the writing world?

J.K.Rowling. She didn't have a lot before she started writing and look where she is now!

15: Who would you say backs you up the most besides your family?

My friends but especially my husband.

16: Do you see writing as a career if not then what is your main focus in the working world?

Yes writing is my career now.

17: If you had to rewrite any of your books, would you? Why, or why not?

No, I have gone over and over the story, changing bits here and there, but there came to a point where I had to stop otherwise I never would have released it. I would probably still be here now, changing bits.

18: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated? Interest in reading?

My mother encouraged reading from an early age, always making it fun and interesting.

19: Can you share a little of your current work or a work will that be launching soon? This is a small excerpt from ‘Torn’:

He bent down and kissed me lightly on the lips, short, fast kisses, teasing me, using his tongue now and again to dart in and out of my mouth. I got up onto my tiptoes to be able to reach him better and kissed him fully. He moaned into my mouth and moved his hands from around my back to my hips, pulling me hard against him. His hands moved again, cupping my ass.

20: If there is, then what do you find most challenging when you put pen to paper? What is the easiest part when you write? What was your favorite scene that you've ever written?

I struggle with dialogue and sometimes have to say out loud what I want to write just to make sure it sounds ok.
The steamy scenes are my favorite to write.

21: What superhero is your favorite and why? What super power would you add?

Captain America because he's hot and kicks butt. I would like to fly though.

22: Who is your favorite author and what is the reasoning for enjoying their books? How would you describe their writing style?

J.K. Rowling is magical and descriptive. Mark Tufo is another of my favorites, I love the witty, sarcastic, characters  he has.

23: What age group do you mostly write to?

Adults 18+

24: Have you been on book tours and if so, what was your experience? Conventions? Workshops?

No not yet, but I am looking forward to attending some soon.

25: Who designed the covers?

Harris Channing designed the cover.

26: Do you have any specific advice that you want to get across to your readers that want to pursue a life of writing?

Just don't give up, keep at it. It can be frustrating, especially if the words don't flow as easily as they should but just take a little break and then get right back to it. You have to work for your dreams.

27: Do you remember the first book you read or caught your attention the most?

Enid Blytons ‘The Folk of The Faraway tree’.

28: What book, to your knowledge, made you laugh/cry the most?

Recently, the book that made me feel the most emotional both happiness and sadness was ‘In an Instant’ by Janae Mitchell. It was so touching and the strength of the main character and what they had to go through was amazing.

29: If you could coauthor a book with someone, then who would you choose? Why?

Janae Mitchell. I love her style of writing and the emotions her books brings out in the reader, they always leave me wanting more!

30: What genre do you want to write that you haven't written yet?

Horror

31: Other than writing, do you have any hobbies?

Reading, I also enjoy walking.

32: Do you have a go to comfort food?

Anything with Reeses peanut butter in it!

(Hey Scarlet, we are best friend because Reese's Peanut Butter candy is my favorite)

33: If you could live in a fictional (book or movie) world, what would it be? What character would you most likely be?

Harry potter, I would like to be Hagrid’s teaching assistant, because I love the animals.

3
4: Do you still read a book regardless if a review has given away an important piece of the book? Do you still read a book regardless of the positive/negative reviews?

Yes I would still read the book. Everyone has their own way of interpreting the book and will form their own opinion of it. What may be somebodies worst book they have ever read may be my all time favorite.

I can't wait to see what happens in "Split" which is book two in her series! I have a feel even after book two comes over, we will definitely be reading a lot more books from Scarlet. Who knows, maybe we could even get her and Jane Mitchell to co author a horror novel?
